Portraits for Guitar

Be Part of a Bold New Musical Journey

A groundbreaking collaboration between Dominique Le Gendre & Ahmed Dickinson – blending classical guitar, Caribbean identity, and contemporary sound.

About the Project

We are inviting you to take part in an extraordinary musical journey that bridges culture, disciplines and generations. Portraits for Guitar is a vibrant collection of new works, juxtaposing pieces by Cuban composers Flores Chaviano and Walfrido Domínguez, Caribbean composer Dominique Le Gendre, and British composer Stephen Goss. Each work offers a distinct perspective, weaving classical tradition with regional colour, memory, and innovation — together forming a powerful sonic tapestry that reflects depth, diversity, and cultural resonance.

Why We’re Fundraising

With partial funding already secured from the Hollick Family Foundation and PRS Foundation’s Women Make Music, we now need your support to raise £29,212 to complete the final phases of the project which includes:

🎙️ Recording, mixing, and mastering of the music.

🎥 Producing a compelling campaign video to tell the story behind the project.

🎶 Commissioning and compensating talented guest artists and creatives.

📣 Promoting the final work to international audiences

Why “Portraits for Guitar” Matters

Portraits for Guitar is a celebration of identity, imagination, and belonging.

In a classical music landscape where Caribbean voices are still rarely heard, this project offers a new narrative — one that affirms that our stories, sounds, and histories deserve to take centre stage. Through the expressive language of the guitar and the rich dialogue between composers from Cuba, the Caribbean, and the UK, this album creates music that speaks across borders, cultures, and generations.

At its heart are new works by Dominique Le Gendre (Trinidad & Tobago), Flores Chaviano and Walfrido Domínguez (Cuba), and Stephen Goss (UK) — each contributing a unique musical voice that reflects their cultural and personal histories. The result is a powerful sonic tapestry that brings together classical tradition, regional colour, memory, and innovation.

But this is more than just a recording. It’s about creating space — for beauty, connection, and representation. It’s about showing young artists that heritage is not only valid, but vital — and that classical music can be a place of inclusion and transformation.

By supporting Portraits for Guitar, you’re helping to shape a future where classical music is broader, richer, and more human — a future where everyone can find themselves in the sound.

Let’s build that future together.
